January 31, 2023, I saw the movie M3GAN in theatres at London Tottenham Court Road Odeon. This was the first movie I experienced in London, with a very different experience than any movie theatre in the States. Walking in, someone scanned my barcode for the film, similar to some theatres, but the concessions differ. On one side is a candy wall like the one you see at candy stores, and on the other are the cashiers. Another thing I found different was that you could order your food and drinks ahead of time to be ready for you upon arrival. It has become helpful to order ahead of time and have everything ready instead of waiting in line, but on some occasions, this is not an option at other theatres. Those are just a few differences I have noticed since watching films in London. Another observation would be the number of screens that are used in each cinema, with fewer of them compared to the vast amount of screens used to play the same film in cinemas in the U.S. Here, the few screens can sometimes fill up to around 30 people, and in some select screens, the number of seats is over 100 some even over 300 seats. The film M3GAN was inside screen 1 at the Tottenham Court Road Odeon with seats similar to older theatre seats that do not recline and are closer together. These seats are considered standard and lower-priced compared to reclining seats. Unlike other theatres, this one is narrow and has a smaller screen than most others, but a decent number of audience members can watch. Coming to the theatre here is a new experience and a change in how screening is done in a different country. Here building or spaces are repurposed for something new, like the theatres, to display entertainment for the people's enjoyment.
